Legal Name:ÌýOfficial university documents, including but not limited to transcripts, degree parchments, enrolment confirmations, government forms, tax forms, and government reporting will be issued usingÌýa student’sÌýlegal name.Ìý
Chosen Name:ÌýA chosen name is a name that you commonly use that is different from your legal name – it is about how you want to be addressed.Ìý
While we use the phrase “chosen nameâ€,Ìýfor many people it is essential to their identity. It is especially important for transgender and non-binary students, whose university experience and well-being are negativelyÌýimpactedÌýwhen their chosen name is not used.ÌýÌý
A student’s chosen name will be used wherever possible inÌýUniversityÌýcommunication and internal systems that do not require the use of a legal name. This includes, but is not limited to:Ìý
- Class lists and grade rostersÌý
- Learning management systems (e.g., Moodle)Ìý
- Advising and academic support interactionsÌý
- Cocurricular and student experience platformsÌý
- University directory and internal communicationsÌý
The University will make reasonable efforts to ensure that chosen names are used consistently by faculty and staff in allÌýappropriate contexts.Ìý
